Established in 1984 the museum was founded to preserve Scotland's mining heritage. Wonder at the finest surviving example of a Victorian colliery within a fully accessible three storey visitor centre which contains everything relating to Scotland's "black diamonds". Examine the massive Steam Engine and the underground gallery complete with coalface. Visit the hands on and audio shows. Complete with restaurant and bar. A great day out for all the family.
