Falconry

Known as the ancient sport of Kings, Falconry is still seen as something of an elitist activity. However, several centers have opened allowing visitors to experience the beauty and wonder of these birds of prey close up.

Falconry at Dalhousie
Melville Castle is fortunate enough to be situated just 2 miles from a falconry centre based at Dalhousie Castle, which not only welcomes our guests with open arms, but if there are sufficient numbers it brings the falconry display to the grounds of the castle.

You may be interested in taking the brids on a hawk walk where you will learn to handle and fly a hawk whilst taking in the glories of the scenic countryside. All training and equipment is provided. For those wishing to experience some falconry as a "taster", a hawk walk provides a good introduction and experience to maintaining these magnificent raptors.
